Braeside is a residential neighborhood in the south-west quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. It is located north of Anderson Road, south of Southland Drive, west of 14th Street SW and east of 24th Street SW.

Demographics

In 2006 the neighbourhood had a population of 6,182.[2][1] As of 2000, 20.5% of the residents were immigrants. A proportion of 10.6% of the buildings were condominiums or apartments, and 19.6% of the housing was used for renting.[3]

In 2008 the neighbourhood had a population of 6,014, a 1.32% decrease from 2007, when the census registered 6,026 residents.[4]

Infrastructure

There are two shopping complexes in the community, both strip malls. The larger complex located on Southland Drive is home to a Shoppers Drug Mart and a string of smaller retail and dining outlets. The other facility nestled in the corner of 24th Street and Braeside Drive is home to a Pizza Hut restaurant, a Tim Hortons, a KFC, a Subway sandwich shop, and several smaller retail and medical outlets, as well as a community police station. A number of convenience stores are also located in the neighbourhood. The majority of land use is residential, however.

Education

Braeside is served by the Braeside Elementary public school. A Junior High School is located immediately north of the community.
